HC Deb 11 May 1959 vol 605 cc118-9W
Lieut.-Colonel Bromley-Davenport

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation what amount of the £69,500,000 of schemes authorised under the road programme in the financial year 1958–59 will be borne by the Exchequer; and how the difference between this amount arid the total of £86,400,000 of estimated new commitments for new construction and major improvements of trunk roads and classified roads given in the Civil Estimates for that year is accounted for.

Mr. Watkinson

All the £69.5 million will be borne by the Exchequer. The final commitment was less than the estimated figure because certain major schemes such as the Tyne Tunnel were delayed beyond the end of the year.
