§ 70. Mr. Rossasked the President of the Board of Trade if he will authorise the building of one or more advance factories in the Ayrshire Development Area.
§ Mr. J. RodgersAs I said on 19th March, a single Scottish advance factory is to be built at Coatbridge as an experiment. We must await the result of this experiment before deciding whether we should build further ones.
§ 72. Mr. Rossasked the President of the Board of Trade what action he proposes to take to increase employment in Ayrshire.
§ Mr. J. RodgersAs I explained to the hon. Member on 24th March, North-West Ayrshire was included in January last in the list of places to benefit from the Distribution of Industry (Industrial Finance) Act, 1958. Since then, I have visited the area and discussed the situation with local authorities, and I shall continue my efforts to induce industrialists to consider this locality.
