HC Deb 04 May 1959 vol 605 cc4-5W
62. Mr. Willey

asked the Minister of Labour what factors have caused the increase of 1,513 in the number of unemployed in Sunderland compared with the corresponding figure for last year.

Mr. lain Macleod

The main factors have been a reduction in orders at ship-repairing yards and a decline in activity in several branches of manufacturing industry and in building and contracting and distributive trades.
