Mr. Hirst

asked the President of the Board of Trade what grants have been made from the residual funds of the Clothing Industry Development Council in accordance with the provisions of the Clothing Industry Development Council (Dissolution) Order, 1952.

The following grants have been made by the Board of Trade:

  1. (a) to the Clothing Institute, a sum not exceeding £18,000 over a period of three years for a programme of training and education for the industry, which is intended to improve and extend existing facilities; and
  2. (b) to the National Union of Tailors and Garment Workers, a sum not exceeding £10,000 over a period of three years for the purpose of undertaking research into the existing education and training facilities available to the clothing industry and possible means of improvement.
