HC Deb 19 March 1959 vol 602 cc58-9W
68. Mr. Wade

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies, in the course of his inquiries, what consultations the Minister of State for the Colonies has had, or will have, with the heads of Christian Missions in Nyasaland with a view to obtaining impartial advice and information as to the cause of the recent disturbances.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

My noble Friend had discussions with the Bishop of Blantyre, Mr. Doig and Mr. Irvine of the Church of Scotland and Bishop Hardmanthe and Bishop Theunissen of the Roman Catholic Church.

He also had informal talks with the Roman Catholic Fathers at Lilongwe. He invited Mr. Macpherson of Livingstonia to meet him but this could not be arranged in the short time available.
