§ 56. Mr. Beswickasked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation whether the recommendations of the International Air Transport Association with regard to fare increases on jet aircraft have been considered by him; what is his policy in these matters; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. WatkinsonThe only recommendation concerning fares on jet aircraft of the International Air Transport Association which affects United Kingdom airlines is that for a small surcharge on the North Atlantic route for a limited period. While I would prefer to avoid increases in air fares at the present time, I appreciate that this was a compromise agreement reached after months of hard negotiations. For these reasons, I do not propose to disapprove the I.A.T.A. recommendation.
