HC Deb 04 March 1959 vol 601 c41W
37. Mr. P. Morris

asked the Postmaster-General if he is aware that over 900 potential subscribers in Swansea are in need of a telephone service; and if he will issue immediate instructions for work in connection with outstanding applications to be expedited.

Mr. K. Thompson

Nine hundred is the number of outstanding applications in the whole of the Swansea Telephone Area, which includes about half South Wales. The figures for Swansea itself is about 90. Both these figures exclude applications under inquiry or in course of being met. More plant is needed, and is being provided as fast as our resources permit. This year's programme for the telephone area includes the provision of new equipment at 16 exchanges, and new cables at 33. We hope to connect about 3,500 new subscribers in the area in 1959.
