HC Deb 02 March 1959 vol 601 c11W
75. Mr. Neal

asked the Paymaster-General what new markets for the export of coal have been opened during the present coal year; and what grades of coal are in most demand by overseas buyers.

Sir I. Horobin

Coal export contracts normally cover the calendar year. In 1958 the United Kingdom resumed exports to the Argentine. While there is at present a surplus of most bituminous coals in the European countries where our main coal markets lie, the demand for anthracite grades has been better maintained.
