HC Deb 23 June 1959 vol 607 cc112-3W
Mr. Harold Davies

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs the total of grants made under the 1955 Rural Water Supplies and Sewerage Acts to the rural authorities of Leek and Cheadle to date.

Mr. Bevins

The total capital value of the grants so far promised to the Cheadle Rural District Council under the Rural Water Supplies and Sewerage Acts, 1944 to 1955, is £124,135. Of this total £84,682 has already been paid. The corresponding totals in the case of Leek Rural District Council are £42,272 promised and £8,737 already paid.

Since 1955, payment of grants under these Acts has normally been made by half-yearly instalments over a period of thirty years, and it is by this method that the outstanding grants are being paid in the present instances.
