HC Deb 02 June 1959 vol 606 c2W
Mr. Body

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that since the Cinematograph Films Act, 1957, was passed, the cost of cinema management is substantially higher; and whether he will now consider raising the exemption figure.

Sir D. Eccles

I do not question the factor to which my hon. Friend draws attention. However, an increase in the exemption figure must result in a smaller sum being available for film producers from the levy unless exhibitors whose receipts were above the exemption limit paid more. In the circumstances I think the exemption limit should stay where it is.
