§ Mr. Stonehouseasked the Under-Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations why the powers of Her 70W Majesty's Government were not exercised to prevent the operation of the Magistrates' Court Amendments Act in Southern Rhodesia in view of the discriminatory nature of this legislation.
§ Mr. AlportMy noble Friend considered that, in so far as the Act fell within the terms of Article 28 (a) of the Southern Rhodesia Constitution Letters Patent, it conferred advantages on the Africans which they had not enjoyed under the previous law.
