14. Mr. Parkin

asked the Minister of Labour if he will state the number of unemployed in the Paddington area at the latest available date; and how this figure compares with that of 12 months previously.

The available statistics relate to Employment Exchange areas. Paddington is served by the Edgware Road Employment Exchange and St. Marylebone Youth Employment Office, and the number of unemployed persons on the registers of those offices at 9th February, 1959, was 3,155 compared with 2,324 at 17th February, 1958.

15. Mr. Parkin

asked the Minister of Labour what proportion of juveniles in the Paddington area who left school last July have commenced apprenticeships or entered employment where they receive training for a skilled occupation; and how this figure compares with that of a year ago.

Of the young people about whom information is available, 66 per cent. of the boys and 14 per cent. of the girls in 1958, as compared with 75 per cent. of the boys and 11 per cent. of the girls in 1957.

asked the Minister of Labour if he will state the number of registered disabled persons in the Paddington area unemployed at the latest available date; and how this figure compares with that of 12 months previously.

Mr. Wood

Paddington is a part of the area served by the Edgware Road Employment Exchange. At this office, there were 288 registered disabled persons unemployed on 16th February, 1959, and 210 at 17th February, 1958.
