asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty what consultations he has had, or intends to have, with Lewis County Council, Stornoway Town Council, Ross and Cromarty County Council, and representatives of crofters and others V, ho may be affected by the proposed North Atlantic Treaty Organisation's base at Stornoway.

Stornoway airfield has been surveyed to see whether it is suitable for development as a N.A.T.O. airfield. If it is desired to go ahead with the project, planning clearance will be sought in the normal way and the interested local authorities will be consulted.
