48. Mr. Randall

asked the Minister of Labour what was the number of workers in the borough of Gateshead wholly unemployed and temporarily stopped on the latest convenient date for each year from 1951 to 1959, respectively, together with the numbers of reported vacancies on those dates.

The table below gives the information desired:

ployment for Gateshead alone, but for the combined area of the Blaydon, Felling, Gateshead and Prudhoe employment exchanges and the Blaydon and Gateshead youth employment offices, the percentage rate of unemployment at 9th February, 1959, was 4.0, compared with 2.9 at 13th October, 1958, 3.1 at 17th November, 1958, 3.1 at 8th December, 1958, and 4.4 at 12th January, 1959.
