asked the Minister of Labour whether, in view of the increasing difficulty now being experienced by disabled men in obtaining employment, he will empower Remploy factories to engage additional workers from Section One of the Disabled Register.

No. Remploy was set up under the Disabled Persons (Employment) Act, 1944, to provide work for

asked the Minister of Labour if he will state, for the most convenient date in January, the number of wholly unemployed persons in the borough of Gateshead in respect of duration of unemployment.

At 12th January, 1959, the total number of wholly unemployed persons on the registers of the Gateshead Employment Exchange and Youth Employment Office was 1,911, of whom 368 had been on the registers for two weeks or less, 450 from two to eight weeks and 1,093 for more than eight weeks.
