HC Deb 24 February 1959 vol 600 cc129-30W
65. Mr. D. Jones

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what is the reason far the presence of the frigate, H.M.S. "Ulster", in St. George's Bay, Grenada.

Mr. J. Amery

H.M.S. "Ulster" is not in St. George's Bay, Grenada. She was there from 10th February to 13th February. There was then a possibility of a strike of Government electricity workers which might have lead to a breakdown of essential services. In these circumstances, it was considered advisable for H.M.S. "Ulster" to visit Grenada in case it became necessary to provide technical assistance from her ship's company to maintain these services. The strike in fact did not take place.
