Johnsonasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how much was received by the United Kingdom through Canadian and United States grants or loans and through the European Recovery Programme between July, 1945, and 31st October, 1951; how much was received through Canadian and United States grants or loans through defence aid, loans from the Import-Export Bank, International Monetary Fund, or other sources, between 31st October, 1951, and 31st December, 1958, respectively; and how much of the indebtedness incurred during the former 83W period was repaid during the latter in capital and interest repayments.
§ Mr. ErrollThe answer to the first part of the Question is £1,997 million, and to the second part £710 million. Capital and interest payments made between 31st October, 1951, and 31st December, 1958, in respect of debts incurred between July, 1945, and 31st October, 1951, amounted to £385 million.
