HC Deb 17 February 1959 vol 600 c36W
Mr. Stonehouse

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will make a statement on the resettlement of the Africans displaced in Northern Rhodesia by the Kariba Scheme; what compensation per head has been paid to those moved from their homes; and what health conditions have been experienced in the resettlement areas.

Mr. Amery,

pursuant to his reply, [OFFICIAL REPORT, Tuesday, 10th February, 1959; Vol. 599, c. 184–185], supplied the following further information:

The number of Africans in Northern Rhodesia who have already been resettled is approximately 27,000 and not 22,000 as stated in my previous reply. Those still to be moved number 1,800, as previously stated.
