HC Deb 10 February 1959 vol 599 cc188-9W
Captain Kerby

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty whether the destroyers H.M.S. "St. Kitts", H.M.S. "Barfleur", H.M.S. "Comet", H.M.S. "Chieftain", H.M.S. "Consort", and H.M.S. "Cockade", are now for disposal; and on what grounds they are no longer required, in view of the fact that ships of their classes today form the backbone of the Royal Navy's destroyer forces.

Mr. Orr-Ewing

Yes. Within the limits of the approved Naval plan, these ships, because of their age and condition, have had to give way to better ships.
