162Wof convictions, and, in relation to the maximum fine permitted, the average fine for a first offence, the average fine for a subsequent offence, and the number of disqualifications imposed, since the coming into operation of the Road Traffic Act, 1956, in the convictions for exceeding the speed limit in a built-up area, exceeding the speed limit for a goods vehicle, reckless or dangerous driving, and careless driving, respectively.
§ Mr. R. A. ButlerThe relevant provisions of the Road Traffic Act, 1956, came into force on 1st November, 1956, and there are no separate figures for the months of November and December of that year. The following figures, which are the latest available, relate to prosecutions in magistrates' courts in England and Wales in 1957. I regret that it is not possible to give separate figures for average fines imposed for conviction for a first offence and for subsequent offences.
§ Mr. H. BrookeFigures of the number of houses built in Bootle are given in the Appendix to the Housing Return. It is for the Council to decide what use to make of its houses, and I have no information on the last part of the Question.
