§ 40. Mr. Malcolm MacMillanasked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance what steps he is taking to bring within unemployment insurance the out-worker weavers in the Harris tweed industry, now classed as self-employed, in view of their complete dependence for employment and income upon firms supplying yarn for weaving to a delivery time limit and specification imposed by those firms.
§ Mr. Boyd-CarpenterWhile I have looked sympathetically into this matter, I have come to the conclusion that my predecessors were right in their view that these weavers are self-employed people for the purposes of the National Insurance Acts.
