HC Deb 02 February 1959 vol 599 cc7-8W
66. Mr. Mason

asked the Minister of Supply how many empty factories are being held in reserve by his Department and kept on a maintenance basis; the total annual cost of their maintenance: and his policy for their future.

Mr. Aubrey Jones

At present thirteen factories, mainly for the manufacture of various explosives and propellants not normally manufactured, are held by my Department on care and maintenance at a total annual cost of about £250,000. In the light of the probable future requirements of the Service Departments, as now foreseen, my policy is to retain eleven of these factories. It is my intention to keep the matter under constant review.
