HC Deb 17 December 1959 vol 615 cc242-3W
Mr. Malcolm MacMillan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he is aware that Ross and Cromarty County Council applies its requirements relating to residence in the Lewis area in such a way that an ex-Regular soldier, with a wife and two adolescent children, is prevented from getting on to the waiting list for local authority houses for an indefinite length of time; and what advice he will give to this and other local authorities on means of remedying this situation.

Mr. Maclay

I have already urged local authorities, in the letting of their houses, to make full allowance for the special difficulties of ex-Service men. If the hon. Member will let me have details of any particular case he has in mind, I shall be glad to make inquiries.
