§ Sir A. Hurdasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food when it is proposed to make regulations under the Agriculture (Safety, Health and Welfare Provisions) Act, 1956, to deal with the lifting of excessive weights.
§ Mr. John HareAfter wide consultations with the many representative organisations concerned, my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland and I have decided to proceed with the making of regulations which are being laid today. These will have the effect of restricting the maximum weight of a sack and its contents which may be lifted, unaided, by an agricultural worker to 180 1b., but will not come into effect until July, 1965, so as to provide an adequate time for the necessary changes to be made with the minimum disturbance to agriculture.
