§ 107. Mr. Wingfield Digbyasked the Minister of Transport what steps he is taking to encourage British shipowners to order from British yards, in view of the fact that during the last year British orders for foreign tonnage greatly exceeded foreign orders for new British tonnage.
§ Mr. MarplesBritish shipowners usually prefer to build in British yards unless overseas yards offer more attractive terms. Foreign competition is now very keen, but I have every confidence in the ability of our shipbuilders to meet this challenge.
