HC Deb 16 December 1959 vol 615 cc198-9W
Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is aware of the financial difficulties local authorities in Scotland have in maintaining the number and standard of children's nurseries; and if he will investigate this with a view to enabling local authorities to maintain the numbers and standards of such nurseries in Scotland.

Mr. Maclay

I have received no representations from the local authorities concerned that they are finding the financial burden of running children's nurseries unduly heavy. An investigation, therefore, would not appear to be justified at present.
