HC Deb 15 December 1959 vol 615 cc134-5W
95. Colonel Beamish

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs whether he is aware that as a result of a recent decision by the Lands Tribunal affecting one of Dr. Barnado's Homes, children's homes all over the country may now be rated as boarding houses instead of as private dwelling houses, and that if this is done the extra cost would be con siderable involving Dr. Barnado's Homes, for example, in rate increases of about£10,000 a year; and if he will propose this Session a suitable amendment to the Valuation for Rating Act, 1953, in order to avoid this undesirable possibility.

Mr. H. Brooke

I would refer my hon. Friend to the replies which I gave to my hon. Friends the Members for Gloucestershire, South (Mr. Corfield) and Wembley, North (Wing Cmdr. Bullus) on 24th November.
