§ 92. Mr. R. Harrisasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received from representatives of the Prison Officers at Wormwood Scrubs Prison regarding remarks made by characters in the television programme "Probation Officer" broadcast on 23rd November, 1959, denigrating officers of Her Majesty's Prison Service; and what representations he has made to the Independent Television Authority or the programme contractors.
§ Mr. R. A. ButlerThe Prison Officers' Association protested to the Prison Commissioners that the programme reflected adversely on all prison officers, not only those serving in Wormwood Scrubs Prison. Representations were made by my Department to the programme contractors that the programme not only reflected on the Prison Service as a whole but also on the selection of officers by the Prison Commissioners.
