§ 74. Mr. Haymanasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs whether he is aware that certain abandoned mine-shafts in West Cornwall are constituting a statutory nuisance, in that they are not properly fenced and so constitute a danger for people and animals; and what action he is taking in this matter.
§ Sir K. JosephSection 151 of the Mines and Quarries Act, 1954, provides that certain quarries and the shafts of abandoned mines may constitute statutory nuisances if their unfenced state represents a danger to the public. I think that local authorities are generally well aware of this provision but the hon. Member's Question will no doubt help to draw attention to it.
