§ 72. Mr. Wingfield Digbyasked the Minister of Transport whether, after further experience of conditions on the M.1 has been obtained, he will consider a minimum speed limit for all traffic.
§ Mr. MarplesNearly all slow-moving vehicles are already banned from M.1, but I should be ready to consider a minimum speed limit if further experience should show this to be desirable.
§ 73. Sir C. Taylorasked the Minister of Transport whether he is now prepared to make regulations whereby a 40-milesper-hour speed limit may be imposed in appropriate circumstances in other parts of the country as well as in the London traffic area.
§ Mr. MarplesUnder the Road Traffic Act of 1956 I cannot extend the 40 miles-per-hour speed limit outside the London Traffic Area until I have received and laid before Parliament the views of the Road Safety Committee.
The whole question is at present before that Committee, and I expect to be able to report their views, and my recommendation, to Parliament early in the New Year.
