§ 18. Mr. Sorensenasked the Minister of Education what progress has been made during the last five years in the rebuilding or modernisation of sub-standard primary schools, particularly in rural areas; and approximately what is the school population today, compared with five and 10 years ago, receiving education in those sub-standard school buildings.
§ Sir E. BoyleIn the last five years £40 million have been spent on minor improvements to primary and secondary schools, including a great many rural primary schools. I regret that figures are not available quite in the form requested in the second part of the Question, but the proportion of primary school children in premises provided since the war has risen from 17 per cent. in 1954 to 30 per cent. today.
