HC Deb 29 April 1959 vol 604 cc130-1W
85. Mr. P. Williams

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is satisfied with the opportunities for employment open to school leavers in Sunderland, and in the rest of County Durham, respectively; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. R. Wood

I can only be fully satisfied when young people leaving school are able to obtain suitable employment without delay. At the end of the Easter term 597 children left school in Sunderland, of whom 477 are understood to have found employment by 13th April.

The comparable figures for the rest of County Durham are 3,710 and 3,122.

The Youth Employment Service will continue its efforts to find jobs for those still unemployed.
