Mr. Wilkins

asked the Minister of Health the number of deaths from respiratory diseases in the first three months of 1959, compared with the first three months of 1958. in the South-Western region.

Mr. Walker-Smith

The numbers of deaths due to influenza, bronchitis and pneumonia in the south western region were as follows:

1958 1959
January 568 497
February 449 648
March 466 849

The figures for this area were 26, 24, 21 and 21, 16, 39 respectively for these three months in 1958 and 1959.

These are provisional figures based on registrations of deaths reported weekly by registrars of births and deaths to the Registrar General.

asked the Minister of Health how many deaths from respiratory diseases occurred in the South-West Metropolitan Region in 1946, 1956, 1958, and 1959, respectively.

Precise figures for deaths in the South-West Metropolitan Regional Hospital area are not available. Estimated figures for deaths due to influenza, pneumonia, bronchitis, and other diseases of the respiratory system, are as follow:
