§ Mr. Iremongerasked the Minister of Health what inquiries he has made to establish the extent to which conditions requiring chiropody or orthopaedic surgery are caused by the wearing of shoes the design of which causes deformity in the human foot.
§ Mr. Walker-SmithI have not instituted any such inquiries, but a number of surveys have established the dangers of ill-fitting or badly designed footwear, particularly to children. The Ministry helps in providing appropriate publicity to make the dangers known among parents and young people.
