Mr. Iain Macleod

190 men have been discharged from nine plants employing over 1,000 men which have been closed by the National Coal Board.

88. Mr. Shinwell

asked the Minister of Labour what steps he is taking to find work for coke-oven workers displaced by the closing of coke-oven plants in County Durham.

Mr. Iain Macleod

My local officers are making every effort to find alternative employment for the small number of ex-coke oven workers registered at employment exchanges.
