§ Captain Kerbyasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if, in view of the unceasing drain of capital from the land and the destruction of historic houses, more than 200 of which have vanished in the last thirty years, he will now implement the specific pledge, given in the Agricultural Charter of 1951, to the effect that death duties on agricultural land will be reduced to a token sum only on the death of the owner, the full scale of duties to be exacted only if and when the estate is subsequently sold.
