HC Deb 11 February 1958 vol 582 c42W
Mr. Currie

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many prosecutions on charges of failing to maintain every part of every braking system of a motor vehicle in good and efficient working order took place in Great Britain between 1st January and 31st December, 1957, or in such other recent period of twelve months as may be convenient; in how many of those cases the prosecution followed upon fatal accidents and road accidents involving personal injury, respectively; and in how many cases the braking system involved was hydraulic.

Mr. R. A. Butler

In 1956, the latest year for which figures are available, there were 15,359 prosecutions for offences in connection with the fitting and maintenance of brakes on motor vehicles. No information is available relating these offences to accidents or indicating the types of braking system involved.
