§ Mr. Owenasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is aware that the provisions of the Criminal Law Act, 1826, making payments out of public funds to compensate citizens injured by criminal assault or endeavouring to apprehend wrong doers, are out of date; and whether he will take steps to amend the law or set up a committee of inquiry.
§ Mr. R. A. ButlerThe case for compensating the victims of crimes of violence is one which I am studying. It raises a number of difficult problems, and I am not satisfied that they can most suitably be considered by a committee of inquiry.
