§ 88. Mr. Swinglerasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies on what evidence indicating intention to resort to violence has the Government of Kenya proscribed the Kiama Kia Muingi and arrested 85 of its members; and on what charges these members are being detained.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydI would refer the hon. Member to my reply to the hon. Member for Eton and Slough (Mr. Brockway) on 30th January. None of the 85 Africans arrested initially has been detained. According to the latest information I have, 47 were released, 13 were restricted under Emergency Regulations to living in Meru district, and the remainder have been restricted to villages within Kiambu district.
