HC Deb 04 February 1958 vol 581 cc155-6W
86. Mr. Brockway

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies on what grounds public political meetings in Nairobi have been banned; and to which races the ban applies.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

Any person who wishes to hold a public meeting in Kenya must first obtain a permit from the authorities. As a result of the disorder which occurred at an African political meeting in Nairobi on 19th January the authorities have decided, in the interests of public order, to issue no permits for African political meetings there for the time being.
