Mr. G. M. Thomson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will state, for each year since 1948 in respect of each local authority area, how many children have been exempted from attending school to do Christmas work in the Post Office.

The number of school pupils in each education authority area employed during term-time on this work in each year for 1948 to 1957 is shown in the table below. As the pupils involved are all over compulsory school age the question of legal exemption does not arise.
