HC Deb 09 December 1958 vol 597 cc40-1W
115. Mr. N. McLean

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what representations or advice he has received from the Highland Panel, local authorities, and other responsible bodies about MacBrayne's proposals to withdraw the "Loch Nevis" as part of their reorganisation scheme for their Western Isles steamer services; and what replies he has made.

Mr. Maclay

I have received representations from Inverness County Council, Portree Village Council and the National Farmers' Union for Scotland against the proposed withdrawal of the Skye steamer service, and the Highlands Panel recommended on 26th September that Messrs. MacBrayne's should be asked to reconsider their proposals for this service during the summer months. As my hon. Friend knows, revised proposals are now being considered by the Panel and I shall await their final recommendations before replying to the representations that have been made to me.
