HC Deb 04 December 1958 vol 596 c163W
47. Sir R. Robinson

asked the Prime Minister whether he is aware of the almost unanimous wish of those wives and families of troops serving in Cyprus, who are still in the United Kingdom, to join their husbands, and that this wish is universally shared by the troops themselves; and whether, in order to put all troops serving in Cyprus on the same basis and to increase morale, he will arrange for all families who are qualified under the normal Service rules, and who wish to do so, to join their husbands in time for Christmas.

The Prime Minister

Yes. The Government have decided that the ban on family travel to Cyprus can now be lifted. We shall get as many families as possible out by Christmas, but I am afraid that it will be some time before all the eligible families can be moved or accommodated.
