§ 84. Mr. Ridsdaleasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs (1) why he went against the advice of his inspector and the local urban district council and gave permission for a petrol station to be built on the Kirby Road, near Frinton-on-Sea;
(2) if he will revoke his decision to allow a petrol station in Kirby Road, near Frinton-on-Sea.
§ Mr. H. BrookeThe Inspector took the view that, although the site was itself suitable for a petrol filling station, permission should be withheld because of the importance of preserving the gap between Frinton and Kirby Cross. I felt unable to accept the view, however, that the use of this site on the edge of Frinton would prejudice the local authority's sound aim of preventing the coalition of Frinton with Kirby Green, and I decided therefore that the objection referred to by the Inspector was not a sufficiently strong reason for holding that the public interest required the refusal of permission. My decision was reached after an inquiry at which all the arguments for and against the proposal were fully and clearly stated, and I am not prepared to revoke it.
§ 99. Mr. Ridsdaleasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs what officials of his Department, after his inspector had reported, visited the site proposed for the petrol station in Kirby Road, near Frinton-on-Sea.
