HC Deb 02 December 1958 vol 596 cc112-3W
97 and 98. Mr. Fernyhough

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs (1) if he is aware of the conditions under which many tenants are living in the Market Square, numbers one to five clearance areas, in the borough of Jarrow; and if he will expedite his decision on this matter, and thus enable the local authority to get on with the work;

(2) what are the reasons for his delay in making a decision with regard to the borough of Jarrow's Market Square, numbers one to five clearance areas Compulsory Purchase Order, 1957.

Mr. H. Brooke

The Order was a complicated one, there were many objections to it, and it involved difficult issues going beyond the question of the unfitness of the properties in the clearance areas. Nevertheless, I regret that consideration of the Order has taken longer than it should, and I am seeing to it that my decision will be sent to the Council this week.
