§ Mr. Malcolm MacPhersonasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is his policy with regard to liberal studies in advanced technical courses.
§ Mr. MaclayI am assisting the efforts being made by the institutions concerned in Scotland to give effect to the views of the Government on this matter as stated in paragraph 11 of the White Paper on Technical Education. (Cmd. 9703 of February, 1956.) These efforts include the broadening of the treatment of technical and scientific subjects, the introduction of additional subjects, the development of library facilities and the encouragement of extra-curricular activities.
