asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation if he will initiate a systematic survey of the road bottlenecks on the main routes through London, with a view to finding out those places where the carriageway could be widened and where the pavements take up a disproportionate part of the total width of the street.

As I have said in answer to Questions by my hon. Friend the Member for Wembley, South (Mr. Russell) during the past two years, my divisional road engineer has made a survey of this subject in conjunction with the London County Council and the Metropolitan boroughs, and as a result a number of schemes have been, or are being carried out.
