HC Deb 11 November 1957 vol 577 c19W
66. Mr. G. Darling

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what is being done to increase the number and scope of radio broadcasts to South America by direct transmission and by extending transcription services.

Mr. Ian Harvey

There is to be no increase in the number and scope of radio broadcasts to South America by direct transmission.

The British Broadcasting Corporation are in future to spend annually an additional £50,000 on increasing their transcription services to all areas served by their external broadcasts; and they are at present preparing detailed proposals for using this sum. A proportion of it will be used for transcriptions intended for Latin America.
