HC Deb 14 March 1957 vol 566 cc208-9W
89. Mr. N. Pannell

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether Szymon Struiewski, a Pole, who was sentenced on 9th March at the Old Bailey to seven years' preventive detention for assault, will be deported as recommended by the Lord Chief Justice and why former recommendations for the deportation of this criminal have not been implemented.

Mr. R. A. Butler

A notice of application for leave to appeal against conviction and sentence has been lodged and the case is thereforesub judice. As regards the last part of the Question, an alien cannot be deported unless there is a country willing to receive him, and hitherto the Polish authorities have not found themselves able to establish this man's Polish citizenship.
