80. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what progress has been made in respect of the future constitution of the Federation of Malaya.

Mr. Profumo

The Constitutional Commission has now presented its Report and it is being circulated to those concerned in the Federation of Malaya. I am arranging for duplicated copies to be placed in the Library of the House tomorrow, when the Report is being published in Malaya. It will be printed as a Non-Parliamentary Paper and will be made available in this form as soon as possible.

The Report will now be considered by Her Majesty's Government, Their Highnesses the Malay Rulers and the Government of the Federation of Malaya. My right hon. Friend hopes in due course to present to Parliament agreed proposals on its recommendations.
